Liverpool vs. Real Madrid, Apr. 14

And again on short rest, Real Madrid must go up against another one of Europe’s elite clubs with their second leg match against Liverpool. Magic has been known to happen at Anfield, but without the fans, the magic has been sapped. And you can expect Real to take full advantage of what is no longer a fortress for the Reds.

As we saw in the Round of 16, Real played much better in the second leg than the first. Part of that is due to returns from injury by Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos, but we’ve seen them do this a couple of times in the competition, including against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Galvanized after a defeat to Barcelona and with only this signature competition to play for, Real Madrid will put on a show at Anfield.

Prediction: Liverpool 1, Real Madrid 4

Cadiz vs. Real Madrid, Apr. 21

One week later, Los Blancos will look to exact revenge upon Cadiz, who sit 15th in La Liga, having tumbled from their hot start to the season. They may be ranked low in the table, but they are no pushovers. They can take away points from the giants, as Madridistas witnessed first hand with their embarrassing early-season loss to the “other” Yellow Submarine of La Liga.

Expect Los Blancos to play at a much higher level this time around. They will have a better gameplan for addressing the low block, and I wonder if a “back three” formation with Marcelo in a creative role could function as an antidote. It won’t be easy, but Real will get the job done.

Prediction: Cadiz 0, Real Madrid 1
