Trust the ongoing process, but change the approach

Real Madrid has recruited a lot of talent under their youth development scheme, but that project is yet to kick off at Real Madrid and replace the ‘Old-guard’ of Real Madrid. The players haven’t yet shown that they are someone whom Zidane and the board can rely on, except for Real Madrid. the players can be blamed here, but the club and Zidane are equally at fault here.

As I mentioned above, there’s a lot of talent at Real Madrid, but Zidane hasn’t really tested them out properly. Luka Jovic was brought in for a fee of 60 million euros, but he was never really tested properly. He could’ve easily solved the goalscoring issues by forming a partnership with Benzema/Hazard, but the opportunities didn’t come his way. He has the talent, but the trust in him was lacking. And this summer, there’s a high chance of him leaving Real Madrid permanently.

Rodrygo is another such talented player, who hasn’t been used by Zidane in the best way yet. Most of the time, he was wasted on the right-wing, from where he couldn’t display his complete abilities. If given a chance from the left or through the middle, he could do a lot more. Odegaard’s Real Madrid stint is one of the most confusing ties ever, and there are doubts over the future of the Norwegian.

Vinicius has been promising, but constant criticism of his weaknesses and the pressure on his shoulders have affected him a lot. Brahim Diaz is another talented player, but he never really got a chance under Zidane. Kubo and Reinier are gems, but they have struggled at their respective clubs. Borja Mayoral is one loanee who has done exceptionally well at Roma, but he probably won’t return to Madrid.

There is a lot of talent at Real Madrid, but the players didn’t really get the time they required and the faith that is needed in a youngster.  If they step up and perform with all guns blazing, then why would any other name be linked to Real Madrid in the first place?

Real Madrid’s youth development planning was fine, but the execution didn’t go right. Now if the club makes a big-money signing, then it might be the end of that scheme. But if the club fails to buy any of Haaland or Mbappe, it might be one last chance for the club to revive their youth development strategy and give it one last shot. Who knows, that can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
