Madridistas have been waiting nervously for months on any news regarding an extension for Real Madrid captain and superstar center back Sergio Ramos. The legendary No. 4 is one of three notable expiring contracts this season, with the other two being Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez. Modric is basically locked in to stay, while Vazquez is expected to leave. Meanwhile, fans have been in a state of limbo regarding Ramos’ status.

By and large, most Madridistas have held firm to the belief that Ramos will stay in Madrid. It makes no sense for him to pick anything other than this outcome. But it has been hard to hold steadfast to this confidence due to the swirling rumors and speculation. PSG, anyone?

There has been no movement of late, but the indications in the reports have been positive. And now, on El Larguero’s El Sanhedrin, Julio Pulido stated that an announcement of Sergio Ramos’ contract renewal with Real Madrid may take place when the Spanish national team returns from the international break.

Why? It was pointed out by Jesus Gallego and Mario Torrejon on the show that Los Blancos are set to finish a fiscal year, therefore it is the right time to make a decision and announcement on a finalized contract.

Sergio Ramos will return to Real Madrid from the break in April

Until there is official word that Ramos is staying for one or two years – hopefully it is the latter, Ramos has earned that much – Madridistas will sit behind their screens with bated breath. It has been a task keeping up with all the different reports and rumors in the saga over the couple of months, and I feel it is fair to say that many of us are ready for some relief.

Spain recently defeated Georgia 2-1, and their final game of the international fixtures this March will come on Wednesday, March 31 against Kosovo. As for Ramos, he played for 45 minutes against Greece to start the break, completing a whopping 100 passes before Luis Enrique allowed him to leave the pitch and rest. He is only weeks removed from a return from an injury that cost him over a month of action, so the rest was crucial.
