Keep Raphael Varane

While Gareth Bale is a notable name Real Madrid must find a way to get rid of this summer, Raphael Varane is a star player whom Los Blancos must keep around for the long term.

Varane is one of the best three center backs on this planet, and what he’s accomplished before the age of 27 is simply remarkable. A key leader on the French national team, the reigning World Cup winner needs to be spoken of with the utmost reverence. And likewise, Real Madrid must treat contract negotiations with him in the same respectful manner.

His contract will expire at the end of the 2021-2022 season, and that’s led to speculation about his future. Could Manchester United or PSG steal him away? It’s possible, because Real may have to sell Varane if they cannot re-sign him. And that would be devastating, since they would lose a top center back and not get fair value in return.

So they must keep him. And I cannot emphasize the word “must” here enough. Varane is vital to Real’s long-term success and should be a cornerstone of this organization. I would hate to see him playing for a club like United in 2021-2022 and beyond. He should be a Madrid legend.
