Sign Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe

Cristiano Ronaldo has made waves recently as a potential Real Madrid target, but I just don’t see it happening, to be honest. If anything, Ronaldo is an emergency option in case Los Blancos cannot sign their preferred top targets, which are very clearly Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

I know we’re in a pandemic and Real’s finances have been hit hard, but it really does feel like one of these two guys are a must for the long-term health and even short-term success of this club. Real Madrid – the mighty Real Madrid – cannot enter a fourth straight season with only Karim Benzema as a sure-fire double-digit goal-scorer with a defensive player like Sergio Ramos or Casemiro ranking second behind him. It’s just unthinkable to me that a club that often boasts the best attacks and superstars would have such a dearth of talent for four straight years.

Mbappe is the best option, since he can score 30 goals per season from a wide forward position. And that’s what’s best for Real, schematically speaking, with Benzema producing at such a high level in the middle. However, Haaland and Benzema both have the skill-sets that would allow them to fit together. Of course, many Madridistas will wonder why the hell Zinedine Zidane didn’t give Luka Jovic more chances to be that guy after burning 60 million euros on him a couple of years ago.

Nevertheless, Real need a solution. They need a “galactic” goal-scorer. And it feels like only one of these two guys can provide that caliber of play over the next decade.
