Real Madrid is optimistic about signing a forward who can freshen up their attack. Right now, Karim Benzema seems like the only goal threat that Madrid is imposing on their opponents. But, his style of play doesn’t surely guarantee a league winning 30 goals. He has done his best to score 17 goals so far in his 24 appearances in the league. As such, Kylian Mbappe seems to be Real’s first choice. But, the deal still seems out of range given the financial condition of the Royal Whites.

Here are 5 alternate players who would be a good enough signing if Mbappe is out of the question.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese superstar made his move from Real Madrid to Juventus in 2018 and there are speculations about him being set to depart from the Italian Club. Especially, after their heartbreaking exit from this year’s Champions League to Porto in the Round of 16.

It is safe to say that somewhere or the other a Champions League title was a major reason for Ronaldo’s move. The Italian side was on a sort of a draught on UCL titles with their last coming in 1995-96. On the other hand, upon a win, it’d have been the third club that the Portuguese would have won the UCL with. Alas, that hasn’t happened yet.

He already has 23 goals in 24 appearances in Serie A for Juventus and is valued at around 55 million Euros by Transfermarkt, with his contract set to expire in 2022. At 36 years of age, Ronaldo can still be a quick fix that may benefit Real Madrid’s attack.

Though the transfer fee by Juventus is on a lower end compared to the other possible signings, Ronaldo’s wages could be a big issue for Los Blancos if he is brought in. Nonetheless, Ronaldo is someone who pretty well knows what it takes and feels like to score wearing the Royal White colors.

He would be an instant fit in the current Real squad. He would be playing alongside players like Benzema and Ramos, players that he already has played with before and excelled at link-ups. Moreover, with midfielders like Toni Kroos and Modric building up attacks, Ronaldo may as well end up scoring more goals than he is currently doing for Juve. Furthermore, young guns like Rodrygo and Vinicius can be expected to pick up a trick or two whilst playing with arguably one of the best forwards the world has ever seen.

However, the thing to consider here for Real Madrid is that Ronaldo isn’t the same player that he used to be. At 36 years of age, Real Madrid cannot be certain of how many seasons the superstar can continue with them. Building a team around CR7 right now would be the absolute last thing Zidane should do. He can only be brought in as a quick fix to the problems upfront. Once these issues are solved Los Blancos can take their chances on a Mbappe move in a couple of seasons.
