The month of March is officially over, though the final Real Madrid fixture was over a week ago against Celta Vigo. It is now time to take stock of Real’s XI from the past month, handing out player ratings for each regular starter following the international break and before Real’s return to the pitch at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Saturday afternoon against Eibar for La Liga’s Matchday 29.

In total, Real Madrid played five matches in March 2021, drawing Atletico Madrid and Atalanta to start the month before going on a winning streak with wins over Elche (2-1), Atalanta (3-1), and Celta Vigo (3-1).

GK Thibaut Courtois

It was another solid month for the Belgian goalkeeper. Thibaut Courtois has been a vital player for Real Madrid this season, standing out as one of the top goalkeepers in the league alongside Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Sevilla’s breakout star Bono.

Courtois produced four saves against Atleti and then four more vs. Atalanta in the Champions League. He surprisingly did not record a single clean sheet in the month of March, and he may wish he got something on Luis Muriel’s free kick in the win over Atalanta. Still, not a bad month from him.
