Real Madrid right winger – and now, right back – Lucas Vazquez is on an expiring contract. Like Sergio Ramos, he could leave the club at the end of the 2020-2021 season. But whereas there is still hope from Madridistas that Ramos will stay, fans have resigned themselves to the fact that Los Blancos will most likely let Vazquez walk.

Let’s take a look at three pros and cons if Real Madrid were to let Vazquez leave this summer as a free agent.

Pro: Saving money

Lucas Vazquez currently makes 3.5 million euros per year, and he wants more after being a vital contributor in 2020-2021. He has indeed increased his value on the strength of his performances at right back, which have been passable. Surely, other teams in Europe have taken notice and would thus pay Vazquez more than what he is currently making due to this versatility.

Real Madrid, though, cannot spend more money on a player who is not an important starter.

Con: A replacement must be found

Saving money is very important during the pandemic, but by losing Lucas Vazquez, Real Madrid will have a new need to fill in their squad. That means more time and resources spent searching for a player to slot in, and it’s going to be hard to find a player with Vazquez’s versatility. Right back is a scarce position, as Real have surely found out for themselves.
