Can Karim Benzema keep up the streak?

Karim Benzema has now scored in each of his last seven matches, whether in the Champions League or La Liga. Let that sink in. Benzema, has scored in every single game he’s played in since Feb. 10, meaning that if he scores against Liverpool and Barcelona next week, he’ll have scored in nine straight matches across two months.

We are seeing Benzema at his best and carrying the Real Madrid attack like only he can. Well, the “carrying” should, hopefully, be softened by the emergence of Marco Asensio and Vinicius Junior in recent matches. But even so, the point remains that Benzema is the clear star man of the attack in Madrid.

Like Asensio, Benz’s first goal was ruled out for offsides, as he was just a fraction in front of Eibar defense before heading home a brilliant Marcelo cross. He got his goal in the second half, converting with his head after a delicious cross from Vinicius, who used his left foot after doing a great job of working a fraction of space against the Eibar defender.

Benzema is building his case for La Liga Player of the Year, as he did last season. Beating out Lionel Messi for the honor will not be easy, but if anyone can do it – and beat another rival, Luis Suarez, in the process – then it is Real’s No. 9. I believe he will score against Liverpool and Barcelona in this form, as the players around him are producing more and both of those defenses are suspect.
