Real Madrid forward Marta Cardona has been a game-changing signing for the 2020-2021 season. She is a huge reason why Las Blancas stand a good chance of qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League this season, as she has been so difficult for opponents to stop.
Cardona is just as likely to score a great goal as she is to provide an assist on a platter, and her non-stop energy on the ball makes her an ideal winger for Las Blancas. She’s scored some incredible goals for Real this season.
But this week, she was on international duty, so her incredible goal was for the Spanish national team. Cardona came off the bench in the second half against Mexico, and it did not take her long to score a banger.
Here is a video of the goal posted on Twitter.
Marta Cardona put Spain up 1-0 over Mexico with that strike
This goal from Cardona is a bit similar to the one she scored against her former club, Real Sociedad, in Primera Iberdrola earlier this season. You can find a write-up of that goal here.
Cardona got so much curl on this shot against Mexico. If you give her any little bit of space in the channel or the middle of the pitch, she will make you pay. It doesn’t matter if she’s outside of the box, Cardona has shown on multiple occasions that she is fully capable of scoring from distance. La Real and Mexico have certainly learned this. Left or right foot, she can beat you from anywhere.
It is a blessing to have Cardona at Real Madrid. She is a highlight-reel player on a weekly basis, but she’s also consistently great and effective in traditional ways for a winger. To have a player who is both consistently effective and capable of the spectacular is a gift, and Cardona is both one of the best signings in world football of the last summer window and one of the breakout stars of the year in Spain or anywhere else.
If you haven’t been watching Cardona each week for Real Madrid, you 100 percent need to. She is that damn good. And she will be in action this Sunday, April 18 at 12:00 CET when Las Blancas take on Real Betis in Primera Iberdrola at home.
