3. CM Luka Modric
Luka Modric is as consistent as they come. The Croatian center midfielder is in the midst of another great season for Real Madrid, and he fully earns a spot in the top three of Real’s best players of the season thus far.
He basically does it all for this team. You can find him creating chances, skipping past defenders, controlling the pitch with Toni Kroos, or running relentlessly in defense. Check out his performance against Atalanta and Liverpool for prime examples of what Modric still offers to Los Blancos defensively.
“Lukita” is averaging a tackle per game and 1.3 interceptions per game. Offensively, the experienced midfielder has 1.7 dribbles completed per game and 1.3 key passes per game. If Real’s finishing were better this season, particularly several months ago when the wide forwards were missing so many chances, Modric would undoubtedly have more than three assists.
Capable of scoring bangers, Modric’s best moments are often the ones that don’t make the highlight reels but are nonetheless noticed and appreciated by Madridistas. Modric remains one of the best midfielders in the world, and each “big match” performance enhances his case for being the best of his generation. Madrid fans will already vociferously argue in his favor, and the opposition is finding it increasingly difficult to poke holes in their arguments.
