Real Madrid will have to patiently wait for Kylian Mbappe to make his final decision before the summer 2021 transfer market opens. Mbappe, to this point, has declined every renewal offer from PSG, but with the club impressing in the Champions League again, there continue to be rumblings that he may decide to stay in his home city for a little bit longer.

Of course, there is plenty of appeal in being a Galactico and the face of the Real Madrid project. It truly does seem like Real is Mbappe’s dream club and Zinedine Zidane his dream manager. But Madridistas know they cannot think of Mbappe as a slam-dunk signing.

According to the latest edition of L’Equipe, via Deportes Cuatro, PSG have given Kylian Mbappe an updated renewal offer. Since PSG are essentially owned by Qatar, they would like to have Mbappe with the club through the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in the country. They are reportedly offering Mbappe an extension through 2024 with the stipulation that the forward can leave in 2023 at a “reasonable price”. The extra year for 2024 is just to guarantee that the 22-year-old cannot leave Paris for free.

GetFootballNewsFrance.com adds more details from L’Equipe’s report, stating that Mbappe wants to remain with PSG for another season. But they also note that Mbappe would like to play for a big club outside of France one day, with that club implicitly being Real Madrid.

Kylian Mbappe could wait a little bit longer before joining Real Madrid

Again, the speculation with regards to an Mbappe deal tends to run rampant. We’ve heard so much conflicting information over the last year, especially in the last few weeks, and it seems like whenever we are coming off a big PSG win in the Champions League, the rumors suddenly point to the player staying in Paris.

That said, the report of PSG’s offer is something to talk about. Will this deal make it more likely for Mbappe to choose PSG? He could keep playing in Paris at a high level and add to his chapter in his beloved city, and then he can leave to another club in the prime of his career. Mbappe is so good that it’s easy to forget he still has another decade of dominance in him.

Madridistas want Mbappe, and they want him now. They know how good he is and how much he’s needed to boost the attack and star power of this club. But it is more than possible for Mbappe to take the 30 million euros per year that PSG are offering, continue to score goals and have the time of his life with Neymar in France, and then leave when he’s accomplished everything he feels he’s had to.

In other words, he could take a similar approach to what Cristiano Ronaldo did when he left Wayne Rooney and Manchester United for Los Blancos.
