Real Madrid’s wingers must pass the test

Vinicius Junior is due for some rest after an excellent couple of months. The Brazilian left winger has worked tirelessly for his team on offense and defense, shining as the best player on the pitch in both the first leg vs. Liverpool and El Clasico.

He will almost certainly make way for Rodrygo Goes, who was electric at the left wing position earlier this season before suffering an injury against Granada. Since then, Rodrygo hasn’t been a regular in the lineup, as Vini is in good form and Marco Asensio has recovered some of his form, scoring four goals in four straight games at one point.

Asensio is coming off a down performance in the second leg against Liverpool, so he’ll want to right the ship against Getafe. Both men will go up against a real challenge, as Getafe play a 4-4-2 and can defend the wide areas very well. The likes of Allan-Romeo Nyom and Damian Suarez are steely, experienced defensive presences on the right-hand side, so Rodrygo will need to be at his best. But he is capable.

As for Asensio, he will be going up against Marc Cucurella and the young Matias Oliveira. This is the more exploitable matchup, but only if Asensio puts in the work. His stamina will be tested by Cucurella, and he will have to help Odriozola out against him, too.
