RB Alvaro Odriozola

On the other side of the formation, we have Alvaro Odriozola. He came off the bench against Barcelona and Liverpool, playing better in the latter match. Odriozola could have done better to stop the cross that led to Barça’s lone goal last weekend, but he was solid in the 0-0 draw with the Reds at mid-week.

Like Marcelo, Odriozola has been culpable a number of times this season, making mistakes that have frustrated Madridistas. Few will forget how poorly he played against Alcoyano, as he was very much a part of that embarrassing result. It was a performance reminiscent of his costly errors last year against Mallorca.

But Odriozola is not a bad player. He was not a liability on loan for Bayern last season, though he did not play much. “Odri” joined Real Madrid for 30-ish million euros, and while he has yet to come anywhere near making good on that investment, the fact that they purchased him for this amount shows you he has potential.

Still just 25 years old, Odriozola is fighting for his future in Madrid. A strong performance against Getafe, as a follow-up to a quality display off the bench in the Champions League, would go a long way in boosting the former Real Sociedad man’s confidence.
