RW Marco Asensio

Marco Asensio scored four goals in four straight games for Real Madrid, as he looked a lot more relaxed in front of goal after finally getting a full 90 minutes of rest against Elche. But Asensio fell back down again earlier this week in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool, failing to impose himself on the match.

The problem with Asensio is that he’s never going to be able to outrun defenders and struggles to create his own shot off the dribble. Therefore, it is imperative he makes the right decisions off the ball, gets into dangerous positions, and finishes the chances he does carve out. Asensio did all these things well during his streak of goal-scoring, but he hurt Real Madrid by failing to make himself available to an eager Karim Benzema on several counters against Liverpool.

Asensio will be counted on as one of the only regular starters in the lineup against Getafe, who are notorious for their physicality and defensive work. Real’s result on Sunday could come down to a moment of magic. Asensio, who has a great shot and world-class technical ability, can provide that kind of magic, even though we’ve seen far too few examples of it in 2020-2021.

You can count Asensio as one of the most important players on the pitch for Los Blancos. He should get the most chances of anyone on Real.
