LB Marcelo

Although Marcelo had a terrible game against Getafe, he was forced into the left back position in a back four due to a host of absences. He played considerably better on Matchday 31 at Cadiz as a left wing back/auxillary midfielder. That’s the position where his best match of the season, February against Getafe, occurred.

Marcelo actually made a team-high five tackles against Cadiz, as playing further up the pitch enabled the club legend to make a more profound defensive impact without getting caught out. Look for him to play this role again this Saturday against Betis. If he can keep playing well in a wing back/midfield role, Marcelo could boost his case for remaining a Madridista in the 2021-2022 season.

RB Dani Carvajal

After making a good appearance off the bench in his return from injury against Cadiz, Dani Carvajal is expected to start for the first time since re-injuring himself against Valencia in February.

Carvajal is by far the best right back in La Liga. And with Lucas Vazquez injured for potentially the rest of the season, Carvajal’s return could not come at a better time. He could play further up the pitch in a more attacking role with Militao cleaning up behind him, and that means we could see a lot of deadly crosses and even some exciting runs into the box from the well-rounded right back. Don’t be surprised if Carvajal manages to register an assist for the red-hot Karim Benzema, who had all three goal contributions at Cadiz.
