Did Real Madrid’s title hopes end?

Right when the final whistle blew, many Real Madrid fans took to social media to voice their displeasure at yet another uninspiring performance. The 0-0 draw with Getafe was bad enough, but some were willing to give grace since the team was missing so many starters. Real Betis are a better team, but the way Real played this Saturday at home was not befitting of champions.

With this latest failure to obtain three points, Real are at risk of sliding into third. They are two points behind Atletico Madrid, who have one game in hand. And they are only three points ahead of Barcelona, who have two games in hand. It is not a reach to say that Real are third-best. Even Sevilla are only four points behind Los Blancos with a game in hand!

Still, there are five games remaining in the season, which means there are 15 points available for Real Madrid. They will have to fight hard for those points, considering the likes of Villarreal and Sevilla are still on the calendar.

But the title race is not over yet. Real are in trouble, given the lead Atleti had and the fact that both Atleti and Barça have been better at avoiding slips. They are not out of it, though. This team does not throw in the towel, and Madridistas can only hope this draw with Betis galvanizes them.
