Real Madrid find themselves dealing with being all but out of the title race for La Liga with no time to waste as they prepare for their UEFA Champions League semifinal match against Chelsea. With all that has happened in recent weeks surrounding The Super League, this game will have a lot more focus on it than it probably would have otherwise.

Goalkeeper

After reaching possibly the best form of his career to date, Thibaut Courtois will be excited to be going against his former team. There is no bad blood between the two parties but he’ll still want to come out with a performance to remember against them as he helps his current team fight for the UEFA Champions League title.

Defenders

It was interesting to see him start against Real Betis which was all but a sure point that we will see Dani Carvajal make his second start since February against Chelsea. He’ll be needed and he will have to be fully fit for this game as Chelsea will definitely make things difficult for him.

In the center, we’ll most probably see the partnership of Raphael Varane and Eder Militao once again after it worked quite well in the previous match. On the left, a lot of signs point towards Marcelo but that would be risky so we could see Nacho Fernandez start on the left after he got some more experience in the position on Saturday.

Midfielders

It will be interesting to see what Zinedine Zidane has planned here depending on the availability of Kroos and Modric. Carlos Casemiro is expected to start as usual as he’ll be accompanied by probably Toni Kroos and Luka Modric but we could see things change depending on their availability which means there is potentially a chance for someone like Antonio Blanco to be given the chance of a lifetime. However, if the German and Croatian midfielders are fit, then you can all but guarantee that they will be picked for a game of this magnitude.

Forwards

Could we see Zidane come out with a surprise here? It’s clear that Vinicius Junior will be a starter but we could see the Brazilian start on the right flank and switch to the left periodically as he moves back and forth with Eden Hazard, who could be a very surprising starter in the game.

He has been taking things extremely slowly in order to be fit to play and more importantly, fit for this game. The former Chelsea man almost definitely will not play the full 90 minutes but do not bet against him starting against his former team. Hazard was also impressive during his 13 minutes on the pitch against Real Betis.

Up front, can we guess who it would be? Karim Benzema has been our hero this season once again and he’ll want to add more heroic moments to his reel during one of the most important 90 minutes at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano so far.
