Raphael Varane Injury: How long will center back be out?
Real Madrid have another multi-game injury to worry about. Their hope was to get a few key players back for the upcoming Champions League second leg fixture at Chelsea, and that should still be the case. But they now have a new absence to juggle, as Raphael Varane suffered an injury this weekend against Osasuna.
Los Blancos had to take Varane off the pitch to start the second half, bringing on Nacho Fernandez to play alongside Eder Militao.
There were rumblings of an injury, and those have now been officially confirmed by the club. Varane has a right abductor muscle injury.
According to a report from Manu de Juan of AS, Raphael Varane will miss more than just the upcoming match against Chelsea, who are actually one of his potential suitors this summer if the center back decides not to re-sign with Real Madrid.
Raphael Varane could also be out against Sevilla and Granada
Varane will reportedly also miss the huge weekend fixture against Sevilla, which is crucial in the title race. Sevilla are very much in striking distance of the top spot.
Thereafter, Los Blancos face Granada at mid-week next week, and they are also a danger. Granada are looking to qualify for the Europa League in back-to-back seasons, and they did beat Barcelona.
Goal.com’s Mario Cortegana also confirms that Varane will miss roughly 10 days. He is surely out of the Chelsea and Sevilla contests, and Madridistas should not expect him to be ready for next week’s encounter with Granada.
But if he is needed in the XI, Varane could be back in the lineup for Real’s dangerous trip to San Mames on Sunday, May 16.
Varane’s injury is another tough blow to Real Madrid, but they have the players to overcome this latest injury. Sergio Ramos appears to be on the mend from his injury, while Nacho and Militao have both been lights out. In fact, Militao scored the go-ahead goal and was the clear Man of the Match in Real’s 2-0 win over Osasuna this weekend.
Let’s wish Varane the best in his recovery and hope Militao and Nacho can continue their brilliance.
