How did Real Madrid feel about Eden Hazard laughing with Chelsea players?
Real Madrid left winger Eden Hazard disappointed in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals against his former employers, Chelsea. His display at Stamford Bridge can only be described as “anonymous”, as he barely got into the game and only had a couple of meaningful actions in an eventual 2-0 loss to the Blues.
But Hazard’s performance ended up being overshadowed by his actions after the match. He still has some good friends in the Chelsea ranks, so he decided to have a laugh with them after the match right in front of cameras. Needless to say, that did not go over well with Madridistas, who were frustrated with the loss.
The question is, how did the club feel about Hazard’s laughter in the post-game?
According to a report from ESPN’s Rodrigo Faez and Adriana Garcia, Eden Hazard is predictably not on the club’s good side right now. The anger towards Hazard was described as “monumental”, and that anger includes “even the changing room”. Someone in the club called Hazard’s actions “intolerable” in the context of how difficult of a loss this was for the club.
Real Madrid is not happy with Eden Hazard, but this won’t linger if his play starts to improve
So it seems like the individuals within the club are just as disappointed in Hazard as Real Madrid fans. It’s frustrating when a 100 million euro player does not perform and then acts too cordial with the enemy after the match. A show of respect is more than fine, but jubilant emotions after a woeful defeat are usually not acceptable at a club like Real Madrid.
But it’s easy to exaggerate a situation like this. It’s more that fans and the club are disappointed with Hazard’s actions. The same source that called his actions “intolerable” basically said that things would blow over after Hazard received a “slap on the wrist”.
Hazard has a few more games left in the league title race to prove what he can do for this club. Real Madrid fans have seen Hazard perform at a high level for the team in a few games, but never over an extended period of time. Hopefully what happened at Stamford Bridge can serve as a wake-up call to the star player. Otherwise, Real may head into the 2021-2022 season without Hazard in their plans.
