Real Madrid already have a talented young striker

Another aspect of Real Madrid’s rumored interest in Lautaro Martinez that makes no sense is the presence of another talented young striker whom Los Blancos invested significantly in recently.

Los Merengues purchased Luka Jovic for 60 million euros from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 after his breakout 2018-2019 campaign in the Bundesliga and Europa League. And apparently, Jovic was purchased at Zinedine Zidane’s request. The same manager who, apparently, wanted to sell him and keep Borja Mayoral instead.

So Jovic’s future may be non-existent, given he was loaned back to Frankfurt this winter. But Jovic is a very talented striker who has played well at Eintracht on multiple occasions and wasn’t bad for Real Madrid in his limited minutes. It would be a lie to say he played “great”, but he had some nifty backheels in the build-up to goals and took his chances well when they did come. It’s just that he rarely had much service and didn’t fit the play-style.

If Real Madrid want another striker, why not save their money and give Jovic a real chance in the XI? He started only two games back-to-back in his career with the team, and then Zidane quickly gave up on him after the first couple of matches of the season. It wouldn’t make much economical sense to then go and sign another young striker for potentially even more money.
