There’s no guarantee they will get someone better

Real Madrid fans have dreams of Kylian Mbappe despite the realities of the current economic situation, because it is possible the club can raise enough funds to make a deal happen with PSG. It is, however, not easy in the slightest and involves a few delicate things coming together in the right way for Los Blancos. There are alternatives like Jadon Sancho, but they won’t be much cheaper than Mbappe either.

So a big problem with selling a superstar player like Eden Hazard is that it only makes sense if Real can get someone better with the money they obtain to replace his status. Hazard is a “What if?” at this point, yes, but he still has quality. By selling him, Real would make their squad worse at a time when it’s unclear if they can get that upgrade in star power like Mbappe.

Look, if Los Blancos can sign Mbappe or even Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, I would be more open to selling Hazard for significantly less than his true value. But with those transfers being nothing more than pure conjecture at this juncture in May, it’s hard for me to be an advocate of selling the Belgian when we have seen what he is capable of when healthy.

Real Madrid have a bird in the hand with Hazard. A wounded bird, yes, but one who can sing the sweetest of songs with a touch of either boot when nursed to health. It would behoove Real to support Hazard, because tossing him out of the nest without a more vibrant replacement in the other hand could be another misstep from this fine organization.
