Real Madrid right winger and right back Lucas Vazquez was one of the team’s most important players this season prior to an injury against Barcelona that has cost him the final stages of the campaign. Had Vazquez never went down, Real may still be alive in the Champions League and in a better position in La Liga.

Los Blancos have, therefore, seemingly reconsidered their stance on the impending free agent. Whereas before, Real were reluctant to give into Vazquez’s salary demands, they may now be more interested in renewing with a player who enhanced his reputation this season.

That said, there are other suitors. PSG and Bayern may be among them. But there are slightly lower clubs who could use Vazquez in an important role.

One of those clubs is Milan. According to Gianluca DiMarzio, Lucas Vazquez is asking for seven million euros from Milan. Currently, he earns about half that amount per year.

Real Madrid may not have as much competition for Lucas Vazquez

Therefore, it will be difficult for the Rossoneri to sign Vazquez. Those are high wage demands that Milan probably cannot meet. Even for Real Madrid, seven million euros and double the salary would be a lot. Economic times notwithstanding, that’s a lot of money for a player who is an important backup but a backup nonetheless.

Bayern and PSG have more financial capital, though Die Roten generally don’t throw around too much money on players.

So the ball could be in Real Madrid’s court. Vazquez loves his current club. That means there’s a possibility he could ask for less money from Los Blancos than he would from other clubs.

Would he be willing to take less to stay in Madrid? And how much more money are Real willing to pay than the current 3.5 million euros per year? Those are the key questions to look at. But it seems like, based on his demands to Milan, Real may only have to worry about the upper-echelon (or the very, very desperate) when it comes to competition for Vazquez’s signature.
