Real Madrid Transfers: A possible dream upgrade on Isco
Although some of the scapegoating of Isco gets a little ridiculous, it is true that the attacking midfielder is no longer hitting his best level for Real Madrid. A lot of that is not on him, though. Once favored by Zinedine Zidane over the others at his position, Isco has become a seldom-used bit player in the squad, and it would not be surprising if he is feeling a lack of motivation accordingly.
Isco’s old buddy James Rodriguez has been revived under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton, playing a pivotal role in the middle of the park for the slowly-resurgent Toffees. Perhaps the Andalusian sees this and wonders if he could also benefit from a shift to a team that can make him more central to their plans.
The 29-year-old’s future is uncertain, but he could very well be replaced this summer. Real Madrid could either use the money, or they could use a younger player who is a better fit for what Zidane wants. And they may have just found a great opportunity.
According to a piece written by Pablo M. Fuentenebro in AS, Zinedine Zidane could replace Isco with Lyon’s Houssem Aouar this summer, provided he remains Real Madrid’s manager. He would then be a part of the rotation, eventually replacing one of the current stars in midfield.
Houssem Aouar could be a bargain for Real Madrid
Aouar’s name comes up because of Lyon’s stance on the player. After not being able to sell him for their preferred price during the first pandemic summer, Lyon are ready to sell him for cheaper if he is willing to go. (And he is ready for a bigger opportunity.)
The impressive, attack-minded center midfielder is on the radar of top clubs, including Zidane’s Real, which should be among the favorites. Aouar would only cost 30 million euros both because of last summer’s situation and Lyon’s own need for funds.
That’s a bargain deal for one of the most talented young midfielders in the world. Aouar can be an upgrade on Isco both in the future and the present, given he’s not really affecting the team significantly right now.
