It will all come down to the wire
Real Madrid fans keeping an eye on the Atletico Madrid vs. Osasuna match while nervously watching their team at San Mames had a brief moment of euphoria. Osasuna were up 1-0 on Atleti after Ante Budimir’s goal, while Los Blancos had pulled ahead of their Basque rivals thanks to Nacho.
However, Atleti scored twice via Renan Lodi and Luis Suarez, rescuing a victory from the jaws of defeat and returning to the top of the table. Even an Atleti draw would have put Real Madrid back on top of the league, but, alas, Atleti did not bottle this one.
Real Madrid did the important thing and took care of their own business against the dangerous Lions. However, they are still second in LaLiga thanks to Atleti’s late-game heroics.
So it will all come down to the last match of the season. Villarreal are tougher opponents than Real Valladolid, but they have less to play for. The Europa League Final is, for all intents and purposes, their season. So Unai Emery may have to take it easy with his lineup selection. Valladolid are pretty much pushovers and will likely be relegated after this horrible 4-1 loss to Real Sociedad, but at least they have something to play for.
Madridistas can look forward to one more day of biting their nails and downing antacids.
