While there’s a chance Real Madrid go through another summer transfer window without making any major signings, there remains optimism among Madridistas that a couple of dream targets will be headed to the new-look Santiago Bernabeu in 2021. Real did not make any moves last summer in an effort to save up for Kylian Mbappe and others, and they could make some big sales to generate funds and/or relieve their wage bill.

So it is not impossible for Real Madrid to make a splash or two to a squad that really does need some additional help, particularly offensively. Their exit from the Champions League semifinals was a clear reminder of the deficiencies in the squad.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best possible summer 2021 signing at each position group: defense, midfield, and forward.

Sevilla CB Jules Kounde

Remember, this isn’t a list based on who is most likely, most realistic, or most economically viable. We are merely zeroing in on the cream of the crop and basically breaking down the dream scenarios for Madridistas.

Right back might seem like a bigger need due to Dani Carvajal’s injury history and Lucas Vazquez’s lack of contract extension. But Alvaro Odriozola is headed for a strong finish to the season and was a 35 million euro investment. So Real Madrid are potentially three-strong at the position. Then at left back, Miguel Gutierrez has emerged as a legitimate future star alongside the highly defensive Ferland Mendy.

So if Real Madrid make a signing in defense, it could be to replace both Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos. David Alaba is coming in, but Real may want to move him to a different position and go for someone else to help out Nacho Fernandez and Eder Militao.

At the end of the day, Jules Kounde is probably too expensive to sign when Real should have at least three good center backs, but Kounde is such a great talent that he is indeed the best possible defender to sign. The 22-year-old is playing at a world-class level for Sevilla and is truly a special talent whom Florentino Perez would love to get his hands on.

Out of all the players on the list, Kounde has the lowest chance of signing with Los Blancos. But he’s the best center back Real could conceivably buy. We all know that central defense is a vital position in Madrid.
