On Tuesday France’s 26-man squad for the UEFA EURO 2020 was going to be announced, and everyone was excited to see the squad of a country that has an immense depth in their talent pool. Madridistas weren’t particularly excited, because the only Real Madrid player who could represent France in Euros was Raphael Varane.
Ferland Mendy’s injury issues meant he would miss out, while there was no hope in the case of the team’s current best player and striker Karim Benzema. Benzema has been out of the France national team since his last appearance in October 2015, due to an alleged blackmail case involving Benzema and his teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
And ever since France FA’s president Noel Le Graet said in 2018 that Benzema’s dreams of making it to the French team again might not become true, the fans of Karim Benzema might’ve lost all the hopes of a return. And everything didn’t look to be going on well between the National team manager Didier Deschamps and Karim Benzema, which made matters worse. But Benzema never stopped believing and he kept working hard.
It seemed like Benzema might not make it this time as well, with journalist Andres Onrubia reporting the same, as relayed by Madrid Zone on Twitter. But then, out of nowhere, L’Equipe reported that Benzema might be called up by Deschamps, which caused a stir on social media, with Le Parisien confirming the same.
Many more reliable sources went on to report the same, with the news finally being official on Tuesday evening, as Deschamps included the 33-year-old striker in his squad for the Euros. The news came as music to the ears of Real Madrid fans and the footballing fraternity in general, as the Frenchman had worked to earn this deserved call-up. Benzema shared his happiness on Twitter, with the striker looking highly motivated than ever to make the best use of this chance.
The fans of the French National team would be equally excited as anybody else, because of the return of such a star. But how exactly will Karim Benzema help France? Let us take a detailed look into the topic.
