Karim Benzema will be completing his 559th appearance with Real Madrid against Villarreal on Saturday evening when Los Blancos host the Yellow Submarines at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in Madrid.

His 559th appearance will seal his berth in the club’s exclusive list of the top ten players with the most appearances, according to MARCA. The 33-year-old striker will share the number ten position along with Michel Gonzalez and will become the first-ever foreign player ( French) to enter this list.

The Frenchman has been part of the first team for the past eleven seasons since signing from Lyon in the summer of 2009 for a sum worth 35 million euros.

Since then, Benzema has gone on to score a whopping 278 goals while also providing 143 assists in all competitions for Real Madrid that has seen him win 19 trophies at the club including the historic European three-peat in the Champions League.

Karim Benzema has become Real Madrid’s most important player

In fact, Karim Benzema has been the club’s most important player since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in the summer of 2018. The No. 9 of Real Madrid has stepped up in the goal-scoring department scoring 86 goals in all competitions over the course of the last three seasons with little to no support from his attacking teammates.

Benzema’s individual brilliance over the last few years has seen him return to the French national squad after Didier Deschamps included the 33-year-old in the squad for the Euro 2020. It has only been onward and upward for Karim Benzema lately who is now set to create history on Saturday evening.

The title race in Spain is not yet over for Los Blancos and Atletico Madrid, as only two points separate the two local rivals for the La Liga title. The race has run down to the wire and if Atleti somehow slips up against Real Valladolid then Zinedine Zidane’s side could have their hands on the trophy if they clinch all three points against the Yellow Submarines.

Karim Benzema will be looking to be on the scoresheet having scored 22 league goals already this season. The 33-year-old could probably recreate an iconic Sergio Aguero moment for Real Madrid if Atletico Madrid drop points against Valladolid and Benzema scores the winner to seal the trophy.
