Here it is, the final matchday of the league. Before I even start making my points, I would like to take a moment and praise the extraordinary title race in Spain we are having this season. Though the quality of football in Spain’s top clubs has changed, these changes have accounted for a more frenetic league title race like no other, where any club can beat any club.

Real Madrid achieved a hard-fought victory last time out against Athletic Club at San Mames. Nacho, the lone scorer, knew absolutely nothing about the ball that obediently took a touch of the Spaniard’s legs and found its way into the net. The goal, subject to an offside controversy was ruled in the Whites’ favor and translated into three crucial points in the title race.

The league is hence down to the final matchday, the aim here is to win at any cost. Even that wouldn’t be enough, Los Blancos will have to ride on their luck hoping their city rivals, Atletico Madrid to slip up against Valladolid, who are fighting for survival in the top flight.

Here are the three keys to victory against the Europa League finalists, Villarreal at home.

1. Benzema needs to lead the way for Real Madrid

Karim Benzema very recently got his call-up from the French National side for the Euro 2020 tournament in the summer. The Frenchman hence would be in the jolliest of moods for his final time out in the league this season. However, he would also have particularly crucial responsibilities to live up to in the final matchday.

King Karim has put up amazing shows in his recent outings. Though he didn’t make a direct goal contribution at San Mames, his playing linked the whole attack together. He was finding passes and bringing everyone into the game. With Vinicius Junior struggling with his finishing and Rodrygo Goes doing his fair share of work, the key man upfront would again be Karim Benzema.
