2. Modric and Valverde needs to put in the shift to cover for Kroos

Toni Kroos, after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19 was ruled out from the game at San Mames and forced to isolation, as per the COVID-19 guidelines. The German, however, tested positive and hence would be missing the last matchday in the league, reports Real Madrid CF’s official site.

With the German out, Villarreal’s midfield could pose danger to Los Blancos. One of the most crucial individual battles to be watched at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, this weekend would be Fede Valverde against Dani Parejo. The Uruguayan was impressive at Los Carmenes but failed to capitalize on his opportunity at San Mames. He would, however, have another chance to get at it.

The obvious next key player in midfield would be Luka Modric who mesmerized us with his performance against Granada and then at San Mames. The Croatian was particularly seen attempting more long balls and making up for Kroos’ absence. Carlos Casemiro, who seemed a little tired by the end of the match against Athletic, may well be rotated for Antonio Blanco or maybe we will get to see a change at some point in the match.

As such, winning the midfield battle could be a huge plus for Madrid who needs to win the last game at any cost to have any chance whatsoever at defending their league crown.
