The 2020-2021 season is officially in the books for Real Madrid. Although Los Blancos held up their end of the bargain and beat Villarreal 2-1 on Saturday afternoon after a furious comeback, spearheaded by two goal contributions from star striker Karim Benzema, they did not secure the league after Atletico Madrid completed their own 2-1 comeback victory over a now-relegated Real Valladolid.

Though the season may be over, the drama has not yet ended for Real Madrid. We could be in for a busy summer, made all the more interesting by the upcoming European Championships.

Here are five burning questions for Los Blancos now that the season is over.

Will Zinedine Zidane leave Real Madrid?

This is 100 percent the most pressing question right now. Zinedine Zidane won three straight Champions League titles with Real Madrid and has contributed significant silverware to this team, including a LaLiga triumph in 2019-2020. Yet the consensus seems to be from pundits, even without any trophies obtained, that the 2020-2021 season has been Zizou’s finest coaching job yet.

After being referred to as a tactically weak coach who simply “managed” or “cheerled” players, these analysts have realized the error of their ways. Zidane had to ask for respect at one point in the season, telling reporters that Real Madrid, in spite of all the criticism of his work, would compete for titles until the very end.

And that they did.

Losing Zidane would be a massive blow to Los Blancos. Contrary to what he said at a press conference, there is nobody who could do a better job than him as Real’s manager. We will likely find his fate in the coming days, and Madridistas can only hope he stays.
