How far away are Real Madrid from returning to dominance?

This is a key question that we will most likely dissect frequently as the summer trudges onward. The 2020-2021 season was a difficult one for Real, and there are plenty of positives to take away from it. We cannot call this campaign a failure in any sense, even if Real were not able to secure something tangible in the form of a trophy.

At the same time, even the rosiest of Madridistas has to admit that the results were not up to the standard set by Real Madrid. That is not on Zinedine Zidane at all, but rather on the people who equipped the manager with a suboptimal squad.

Real were close to winning LaLiga, and they were not far away from the Champions League. Their only truly appalling performances were in the cups, in which they were eliminated in both the Supercup and Copa del Rey in their first game.

Los Blancos are pretty close to competing at the highest level both domestically and continentally. They may only need one or two sharp signings to get to that point. We know Real need star power in their attack, but perhaps they should not overlook their lack of depth at positions like striker, defensive midfield, and fullback.
