Will Real Madrid have a new captain in 2021-2022?

We started the end-of-season list of burning questions with something about Zinedine Zidane’s uncertain future, so it is only fitting to close with the potential end of an era for Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

The legendary No. 4 started the season brightly, and I hope Madridistas do not forget how damn good he was for months. Before his first injury in Pamplona, Ramos was on top of the world. His passing numbers were through the roof. According to WhoScored.com, the Spanish international was averaging 73.2 passes per game with a pass completion percentage of 91.9. And he accomplished these numbers with 7.6 long ball attempts per game!

Ramos is on another level in his build-up play and leadership, and his defending is indeed elite, contrary to what a certain member of the media will try to tell you.

He will be missed if he goes. It would be heartbreaking to see him at PSG. And it is frustrating for Madridistas that at the end of the season, we still don’t have clarity on what Ramos’ next move will be. Because it just seems wrong for him to play anywhere else with the legacy he has built in Madrid as one of the greatest center backs of all time.

If Ramos goes, there is one man who stands out above the rest as the next captain, and that is the man who led the line and carried the team to contention at times. He came up big in countless crucial matches, including the very last one vs. Villarreal. And that man is Karim Benzema.
