Midfield

Who is going to stay?

Right now, the untouchables in the midfield department are Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Fede Valverde. Kroos and Casemiro are in their prime, and Valverde is one of the brightest prospects of Europe, and he has proved his worth every time he has been fit and available this season. The club values him as one for the future, and they haven’t considered any form of interest for the Uruguayan from top clubs like Bayern Munich.

There were doubts about Luka Modric’s future at the beginning of the season. But after a brilliant season in which he has undoubtedly been one of the best players this season, it is safe to say that Luka Modric won’t be going anywhere this summer. With Florentino Perez confirming that Modric has renewed his contract, there aren’t any doubts. And one needs to appreciate Luka Modric’s love for Real Madrid because of his willingness to lower his wages to continue at the club where he wants to retire one day.

Isco

Isco’s departure has always been coming, ever since his differences with Santiago Solari in the 2018/19 season. With Zidane’s return, people expected him to be the world-class player he once was, but he could never redeem himself. Zidane made numerous attempts to revive Isco, but the Spanish playmaker couldn’t repay his faith. The 29-year-old’s fitness issues and inconsistency couldn’t help his case.

Isco’s interest in leaving Real Madrid has been there from the winter of 2020 itself, as reported by MARCA. But so far he hasn’t been linked to a particular club, due to which there are still doubts about his future. Many clubs can’t afford his wages, but given the player’s willingness to leave Madrid, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave the club soon.

Transfer targets

David Alaba is versatile enough to play as a midfielder as well, and his signing would give Real another option in the middle. Few other names being linked to Real Marid are Houssem Aouar and Eduardo Camavinga, with both the French international’s name being heard a lot in recent times.

Requirements

A left-sided central midfielder who can cover for Kroos, and a backup defensive midfielder (Blanco might help here).
