At long last, the Sergio Ramos contract saga at Real Madrid may soon be over, and we may get the satisfying conclusion that we all initially expected to happen months ago.

Ramos and Real have been negotiating for what seems like months, as the center back’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2020-2021 season, making him a soon-to-be free agent. There have been rumors linking him to PSG, but, in reading the tea leaves, they are the only team somewhat linked to him. And even then, many Madridistas have wondered if PSG’s rumored interest was just a leverage tactic.

Now, MARCA’s Juan Ignacio Garcia-Ochoa reports that Sergio Ramos doesn’t have “great offers” elsewhere, and in lieu of “more desirable destinations”, he is expected to accept Real Madrid’s renewal offer.

The report states that “everything indicates” Ramos will take the offer on the table from Florentino Perez, even if the president hasn’t left much leeway for the captain.

Sergio Ramos re-signing with Real Madrid has always made the most sense for everyone involved

So it sounds like after months, a few false alarms, and a couple of worries about PSG, Ramos will put pen to paper and re-sign with Madrid. And that’s honestly always been the most sensible conclusion to this whole ordeal.

Nothing is close to official yet, so Madridistas will keep sweating until they get any sort of certain word that Ramos is staying in Madrid. But for now, we have reason to be optimistic that the No. 4 will stick around after a good but injury-filled season in which he could not fully help the team in the title race and Champions League knockout stages.

Ramos is surely hungry and ready to fight next season. His legacy at Real Madrid must be very important to him, even if he wanted a different deal from Perez to be offered to him. In this economic situation, Ramos will have to take what he can get from Real, because it doesn’t look like anyone else is offering more.

And that’s not surprising. Because at the end of the day, nobody appreciates Ramos more than Los Merengues. On top of that, he means more to Real Madrid and is more important to this club than he would be to anyone else. His leadership is a massive part of that equation. Let’s hope this deal finally gets done in the near future.
