EDEN HAZARD

Eden Hazard was deemed to be Real Madrid’s knight in shining armour following the disastrous 2018/19 season.  The 100 million euro signing has failed to live up to the price tag and has been a mere shadow of his past form at the Spanish capital.

In my opinion, Real Madrid have performed far better without Eden Hazard in the team or the squad. Every time the Belgian has returned from an injury during a crucial fixture, it has ended poorly for Los Blancos.

In 2019, against Manchester City, Zinedine Zidane decided to start Hazard in the second leg after just returning from an injury and it ended with being eliminated along with an anonymous performance from Hazard. History repeated itself against Chelsea this season in the Champions League semi-final.

In short, Real has learned how to play without the Belgian and his presence at the club seems to be surplus for me. He earns a hefty wage of 25 million euros a year while barely even playing. Selling Eden Hazard this summer will certainly be the best option rather than hanging on for another year before his market value depreciates any further.

A transfer fee around the ballpark of 50-60 million euros would be ideal. Real Madrid should strike the iron when it’s hot and this is the perfect time to offload Hazard and let Mbappe take over the left-wing which is his preferred position.
