2. Lucas Vazquez

On number two, we have our acclaimed future cult hero, Lucas Vazquez. Vazquez missed on some of the season-ending action. To be honest, a lot. His last game for the season in a White Shirt was the rainy Clasico at home. He had to be brought down after 43 minutes after picking up an injury. He was replaced by Alvaro Odriozola. The match famously ended in a 2-1 victory for Los Blancos.

Lucas Vazquez has been Zinedine Zidane’s choicest weapon this season. Listed as a natural forward in Real Madrid CF’s official website, he was used rather as a Right-back following Dani Carvajal’s elongated absence. And, he stepped up to the job in fine style. His defensive record this season was phenomenal with a whopping 2.4 successful tackles per game. He also did his fair share in terms of interceptions and clearances. He is now listed as a defender/midfielder who plays on the right by WhoScored.

He was instrumental several times in the attack. He ends the season with two goals and seven assists by his name, the figure could have been better had he not picked up that injury against Barcelona. He nonetheless bags a 7.18 rating overall in the season and two MOTM performances, per Whoscored.

Lucas pulled off few crucial goal contributions. First, in the home game against Real Sociedad, his assist for Vinicius’ deflected finish was the difference that helped Los Blancos rescue a point. In El Clasico, too, he assisted Karim Benzema for the opener that the Frenchman buried in style with a back-heel flick. The 29-year-old undoubtedly became a key player for Real Madrid in 2020-2021.
