AM Isco

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco is likely going to be on his way out of the club this summer. The Royal Whites would do well to make some money by selling him, and a sale would also help their wage bill. Further, Isco just doesn’t seem to fit Real much nowadays and could do a lot more at a different club.

In what may have been his final season for Real Madrid, Isco managed to earn just 899 minutes in LaLiga, coming off the bench about twice as often as he started. Even so, Isco still averaged 1.2 dribbles completed per game, reminding Madridistas that he is still one of the most skilled midfielders in the business. He even tried his best to press and defend as a flat midfielder in a three-man setup, though that didn’t really suit him.

Isco didn’t get to play much, and he especially did not get to play much in attacking midfield positions or in the “free role” that suits him best. So Isco’s performances were a step lower than what we saw in 2019-2020, when he had an underrated conclusion to the title-winning campaign.

There is also the matter that some Madridistas will mostly remember the fact that Isco played in some of Real’s more disappointing outings, such as the Copa del Rey defeat at Alcoyano. Isco is not someone who should be scapegoated in these kinds of performances, but it is true that Real Madrid did not get much out of the former Malaga man this season.
