Real Madrid working on a move to buy back promising wide man?
Real Madrid could use some depth in their squad this summer. After making no summer signings in 2020 during the first wave of the pandemic in order to save up money for the future, Los Blancos suffered a huge amount of injuries during the grueling 2020-2021 season. They still managed to compete in LaLiga and the Champions League, but they didn’t win any titles.
So this summer, with a new manager on his way, Real Madrid know they must make a few moves. Beyond pursuing Kylian Mbappe, they need to add some quality depth, especially if they cannot re-sign the likes of Lucas Vazquez and Sergio Ramos.
In that spirit, Los Blancos seem to be working towards signing their top Vazquez replacement, Jorge de Frutos of Levante.
De Frutos – along with Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Reguilon, and Oscar Rodriguez – was among the talents sold last summer to raise funds during the pandemic. As with the preceding three names, Real Madrid have retained some right to repurchase de Frutos. In this case, they have a direct buy-back clause of 15 million euros.
Real Madrid’s president has spoken with Levante’s president about a deal
After rumors during the season of a potential summer approach for Jorge de Frutos, Super Deporte reports that Florentino Perez spoke directly with Levante’s president about a potential deal for the right winger/right back/right wing back this summer.
Super Deporte states that de Frutos could replace Vazquez, but he could also still be bought back by Real Madrid even if the club does not keep the experienced Galician. However, a deal may have to wait until Real’s free agent situations are resolved and until a new manager gives his “OK”.
De Frutos quickly broke out for the exciting Frogs’ attack last season, providing nine assists down the right-hand side and scoring four goals of his own. Per WhoScored.com, the talented 24-year-old averaged 1.1 key passes per game and 1.2 dribbles completed per game. De Frutos is a promising player who can help Real Madrid.
We’ll see if there are any more rumors linking de Frutos with a move back to Madrid, because based on all the links we’ve heard over the past couple of months, this is an affordable deal that could happen. If de Frutos plays as well as he did at Levante for Real, then he’ll surely be worth significantly more than the 15 million euros Los Blancos would have to pay to buy him back from the Valencia-based outfit.
