Real Madrid recently announced the signing of David Alaba on a free transfer from Bayern Munich. The Austrian defender penned a five-year deal with Los Blancos along with a whooping package that would see him earn 12 million euros a year.

Following Alaba’s arrival, the tension looming around Sergio Ramos‘s renewal has intensified. ESPN reports that Manchester City are prepared to offer Ramos a two-year contract if he fails to reach an agreement with Real Madrid.

The negotiations between Sergio Ramos and Florentino Perez had reached a deadlock since January as the 35-year-old demands a two-year extension with an increase in pay whilst Perez remains firm with his offer of a one-year extension with a 10% reduction in salary. Similar to what Luka Modric was offered recently.

Could Sergio Ramos end up leaving Real Madrid?

If there’s no progression in the negotiations between the captain and the club by June 30th, Ramos will be a free agent. Manchester City want the Spaniard to spend two years at the Etihad Stadium and are willing to extend his contract by playing another season in the MLS, at New York City Fc. The MLS club is part of CFG aka City Football Group that also owns Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola values Ramos’s experience and wants the 35-year-old to form a rock-solid partnership with Ruben Dias next season. According to the data analysts at City, via the above report from ESPN, Ramos’ performance levels and physical conditioning are still at superior levels to compete in the Premier League for at least two years.

Sergio Ramos will certainly attempt to renegotiate a deal with Real Madrid, however, the signing of Alaba could complicate things. The Austrian has been handed a five-year deal along with an expensive package worth 12 million euros a year.

Which is the same salary that Sergio Ramos earns a year after over a decade of service for the club. Ramos will demand an increase in his wages and Florentino resists accepting his demands, the Spaniard could well and truly be on his way to Manchester City.
