Real Madrid‘s long 2020/2021 season came to an end in a nail-biting yet disappointing final La Liga matchday with a 2-1 win against Villareal at the Alfredo Di Stefano. Los Blancos needed a win against the Yellow Submarines to have a chance at retaining their league title. However, Atletico Madrid needed to drop points at Valladolid, and unfortunately for the Merengues, Diego Simeone’s men did their job to deny Real Madrid a back-to-back league triumph.

Zinedine Zidane’s men went through many ups and downs throughout the year. In a season riddled with injuries, there were numerous high moments for the team.

Real Madrid made a deep run in the UEFA Champions League by reaching the semi-finals, and they stretched the La Liga race to the very end. Along the way, they went unbeaten against the top half of the table that included a double against Barcelona. Los Blancos also had some fantastic performances in the UCL knockout matches against Atalanta and Liverpool.

This season also saw Eder Militao emerge as a starter for Real Madrid and the introduction of promising young Castilla players like Antonio Blanco, Miguel Gutierrez, Sergio Arribas, and Marvin Park to the first team.

However, it was not all rainbows and butterflies at the end of the season. Real Madrid struggled throughout for various reasons, and here are the biggest disappointments of the 2020/2021 season.
