Real Madrid is gearing up for a new season under a new manager and with a newer-looking squad. However, all of that is still a few months away. To refresh your memories of the just-completed 2020/21 season, here is a walk through the Top 10 season-defining moments for Los Blancos.

10. 88th minute-equalizer at Wanda Metropolitano, Matchday 26, La Liga.

The second Madrid Derbi in the league this season was a much-anticipated encounter. Real Madrid was third on the points table behind city rivals Atletico Madrid and their arch-rivals FC Barcelona. Winning this game would have meant that Real Madrid would have gotten a big boost in the league race.

But as it would happen, Luis Suarez gave the hosts an early one-goal lead in the first half. Had it stayed that way, FC Barcelona would have lost their chance to go to the top of the league in the Matchday. To the Catalan’s rescue, Karim Benzema fired home in the 88th minute through a mishandled Casemiro assist.

It meant that Real Madrid had rescued one point and kept still in second place on the points table. But in all of it, FC Barcelona emerged the winner that day as both of their competitors in the league dropped a couple of points each.

9. El Clasico win at home, Matchday 30, La Liga.

Real Madrid won both their Clasico fixtures in the league this season. First, a 3-0 bashing of the Catalans at their home and the second a 2-1 closely fought encounter under a rainy Madrid sky. The game was especially season-defining because Real Madrid had a clear chance to sit at the top of the table.

This fixture will always be special for Karim Benzema’s spectacular back-heel opener. Toni Kroos added a second with a deflected free-kick to take the lead to 2-0 at half-time. The Catalans fought back hard and added a goal through Oscar Mingueza.

Clasico wins are always special and this one furthered few interesting records. This was a third straight Clasico win for the Whites and very interestingly it held on to the interesting fact – whenever Real completes the league-double over their arch-rivals, the latter never wins the league.
