DANI CARVAJAL

Dani Carvajal has had a rough two or three seasons after struggling with injuries that have prevented him from hitting the ground running. Zinedine Zidane’s departure would have been a tough spill to swallow for Carvajal given the relationship he shared with the Frenchman. However, the return of Ancelotti would certainly have had a positive impact on the right-back.

It was Carlo Ancelotti that trusted Dani Carvajal in the 2013/14 season by making him a first-team starter. Carvajal was sold to Bayern Leverkusen under Jose Mourinho in 2012, however, there was a buy-back clause of 6.5 million euros which was triggered when Ancelotti took over the helm following Jose’s departure.

In his debut season, the Spanish right-back played a pivotal role in helping Real Madrid win their La Decima title and the Copa del Rey against Barcelona in the final. Dani Carvajal’s career took off under Ancelotti and he further cemented his place as an indispensable started under Zinedine Zidane.

It’s not that Carvajal is going to receive more game time under Ancelotti because he would be the first choice right-back irrespective of whoever the coach is. However, the former Everton manager knows how to make the best use of the 29-year-old and can help him reach his top form during the peak years of his career.
