Real Madrid: Carlo Ancelotti identifies the vital issue to fixing the woeful attack

Carlo Ancelotti just had his first press conference after being appointed as the manager of Real Madrid.

It was obvious that the Italian would be bombarded with questions surrounding Gareth Bale’s future, Sergio Ramos’ renewal, a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo, and if Kylian Mbappe would be signing for the club this summer.

Ancelotti made quite a solid statement when asked about Mbappe coming to Real Madrid.

He addressed an underlying issue that has been prevalent at the club in just one sentence.

The fans and the Spanish media have been beating the drum about Mbappe’s potential arrival and how everything will turn around once the Frenchman sets foot onto the Bernabeu. However, Ancelotti has addressed a far more concerning and deeper issue at the club.

Just signing Kylian Mbappe will not fix everything and Carlo Ancelotti understands the same. There first needs to be a system that has to be incorporated on how to attack and break down oppositions before signing a world-class striker to further improve the system.

He wants to fix the system at Real Madrid and not just sign a goal-scorer

Real Madrid have played like an open book for the past year or so under Zinedine Zidane. The club has struggled to get past the bottom half teams in La Liga, who are generally set up a low-block and can defend all day due to the lack of idea’s when Real Madrid attack.

This was mainly because Zinedine Zidane remained true to his tried and tested formula of overloading the wings before dispatching a cross into the box that worked wonders when the club had the BBC frontline. However, this time around, it was clear that Los Blancos have struggled to find the back of the net with Karim Benzema being the only constant source of goals.

Carlo Ancelotti wants to address this issue and he even stated that goals must come from the wingers and midfielders too. The likes of Eden Hazard, Vinicius Jr, and Marco Asensio have not performed all that well and Ancelotti is keen on seeing more output from the wingers next season.

It looks like he wants every forward and midfielder to earn their bread and not be freeloaders on wage payroll. Ancelotti is also expected to provide more game time to the youngsters and the likes of Rodrygo, Vinicius, and maybe Luka Jovic could be handed more important roles to help address the woeful attacking issues.

Gareth Bale is also part of the manager’s plans and given his performance with Spurs this season, it’s evident that he could contribute towards goals next season.

Real Madrid played an attractive style of counter-attacking football under the Italian in 2013 and 2014 and the same could be on display for the 2021-22 season. He has promised to play the same attacking football which is certainly something all fans will look forward to.
