4. ST Luka Jovic

Why is Luka Jovic ranked above Isco when Jovic is younger and potentially a more able contributor to Real Madrid in the 2021-2022 season? There are two key reasons.

The first one is the potential earnings from a Jovic sale should be higher – perhaps even double – that of an Isco sale.

The second is that Kylian Mbappe is an attacker who can play as a striker. Jovic is a striker. Mbappe is the most desirable of the two forwards, and thus Jovic would have an even more difficult path to playing time if Mbappe were signed.

It already seems like Real Madrid don’t want to place much faith in the Serbian international despite the fact that they signed him for 60 million euros in 2019. Jovic started back-to-back games just once for Los Blancos, and he barely featured in the first half of the 2020-2021 season before being loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt.

While Jovic was not bad on his loan to Eintracht, he didn’t blow anyone away. And in order to earn his way back into the first team, Jovic had to play a lot better than just “OK”.

If the right offer comes across Real’s desk, I think they are going to jump at the chance to sell Jovic. He’s never really fit in, and his signing will be looked back on as a mistake from Real Madrid. But not because Jovic is lacking as a striker, no. This signing will reflect poorly on Real’s squad-planning and decision-making.
