When it comes to actually obtaining funds, Raphael Varane is Real Madrid’s best bet on the transfer market. Eden Hazard has more name recognition, but Varane has a lot more to offer in terms of consistency and peak performance to an interested club. And there is significant interest in the French center back.

Varane could even help Real Madrid acquire Kylian Mbappe from PSG directly, as the Parisians have long been interested in signing the central defender for his leadership qualities, intelligence, closing speed, aerial ability, and winning experience. Varane could help PSG immensely.

While the hopes of a 70 million euro transfer for Varane could be dashed, Real Madrid should still get a hefty amount of money for the 28-year-old. He is a world-class player and one of the most valuable central defenders money can buy. Even with one year left on his contract and rampant speculation about his future, Real should be able to do enough at the bargaining table to recoup significant funds.

I’m sure Real Madrid don’t want to sell Varane, but they might have to. And if they are forced to, they can use that money to fund the transfer they’ve wanted above all the others for the past two years. Getting Mbappe would more than soften the blow in the midst of Eder Militao’s breakout at center back.
