Real Madrid spent 60 million euros in the summer of 2019 for Luka Jovic of Eintracht Frankfurt. The Serbian striker was considered to be the one to solve the club’s attacking woes after a stellar campaign with the Eagles in the 2018-19 season- scoring 27 goals in all competitions.

However, the 23-year-old failed to cement a place in the starting eleven nor could he convince Zinedine Zidane for frequent minutes. He spent most of his time warming the bench before being loaned out in January to Eintracht Frankfurt to rebuild his shattered confidence.

While Zidane cannot be held responsible for Jovic’s lack of game time due to Karim Benzema’s surreal form, the Frenchman could have done a better job at handling the young Serbian. In my opinion, Luka Jovic and Zinedine Zidane simply did not get along.

Remember when Jovic was being linked with a move back to Frankfurt in January? He had already landed in Germany and was excluded from the squad list against Athletic Bilbao. But here’s what Zinedine Zidane had to say about Jovic’s exclusion from the squad:

"“Luka Jović is still with us. He’s not here right now because he’s injured, but he is with us. They’ve not told me anything right now, so he’s with us and we’ll see what happens. He’s a striker who scores goals. That’s what we want from him. He is only 21 and he’s still young”"

It’s evident that Zidane did not get along with Jovic and it was another Gareth Bale scenario in the making. However, the reappointment of Carlo Ancelotti has given Luka Jovic a fresh start, a clean slate to impress the new manager and probably receive more minutes next season.

According to Real Madridista, Luka Jovic is very excited about the appointment of Ancelotti. The 23-year-old wants to stay and hopes that he’s included in the Italian’s plans for next season.

Will Luka Jovic continue next season at Real Madrid?

Luka Jovic has been linked with an exit from the Spanish capital and could possibly be sold on a permanent transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt if their prolific goalscorer Andre Silva leaves this summer.

Jovic is amongst one of the best-paid players at the club and the disparity between his squad role and the wages he receives is concerning. Real Madrid are looking to balance their books and cut down wages from their payroll.

However, if the 23-year-old convinces Carlo Ancelotti in the preseason, he might have a chance. It is certain that he will not displace Karim Benzema as a starter, however, one can expect more involvement from Jovic.

Carlo Ancelotti wants to address the inept attacking system at Real Madrid and have Jovic as part of his arsenal off the bench could be helpful. The Serbian has proven his goal-scoring ability with Serbia and Frankfurt with a handful of minutes.

Apart from his technical ability upfront, Jovic is also an excellent dribbler and a playmaker who can support his teammates in the build-up. We’ve seen his fancy flicks and tricks in the Bernabeu, and his backheel assist to Casemiro proves the same.

Hopefully, Carlo has a spot for the Serbian in his plans after barely receiving any support or confidence from Zinedine Zidane in the last one and half years at Real.
