SERGIO REGUILON

Sergio Regulion’s first season at Tottenham Hotspur has been a bag of mixed emotions. The Spaniard started off brilliantly then went off the radar for a while and then he was decent again. Well, the same could be said for Tottenham as a club as well, they started off strong, and then their momentum slowly withered away.

Last season, Reguilon registered six assists in all competitions for Spurs and was a regular starter at left-back. Real Madrid’s left-back position has Ferland Mendy, Marcelo and now Miguel Gutierrez. Mendy is still not very comfortable in the final third, whereas Marcelo is sub-par during defensive transitions. Gutierrez is promising but he’s still quite young and lacks experience.

With that being said, the return of Reguilon does not seem too bad if Marcelo leaves this summer. Real Madrid can exercise their buy-back option this summer for 40 million euros. The buyback clause is valid only for Sergio Reguilon’s first two seasons, which means Los Blancos would have to trigger it now if they want the Spaniard back at the Spanish capital.

However, Reguilon’s return could slow down or hamper the progress of Miguel Gutierrez who may receive lesser game time. Would you want to see Sergio Reguilon back in Madrid?
