MARCOS LLORENTE

Marcos Llorente has Madridismo running his veins. He’s the great-nephew of Paco Gento, a Real Madrid legend. His father, Paco Llorente, also played for Real Madrid. Apart from his family association with the club, Llorente worked his way up from the youth academy. He was promising in the youth team and showed moments of brilliance in the first team as well with the few chances that came his way.

However, Zinedine Zidane did not fancy the Spaniard all that much for reasons unknown. Real Madrid knew that they had a player with immense talent but decided to offload him to an arch-rival Atletico Madrid for 35 million euros. It’s not the price tag that’s the issue but selling a youngster with so much potential to an arch rival is shocking, to say the least.

The repercussions of this transfer were seen this season as Llorente played a key role in guiding Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title ahead of Real Madrid. Apart from that, 26-year-old is such a versatile player as he can play as a midfielder, right-back, and even just behind the striker.

He’s just the kind of player Los Blancos required last season during the injury crisis. He would have been the perfect cover for Casemiro had Zidane decided to keep hold of him. This was one bad transfer made by Real Madrid.
