Raphael Varane could possibly be ending his decade-long association with Real Madrid this summer transfer market. The 28-year-old’s contract runs out with Los Blancos next summer and has not shown much interest in renewing his deal. That ultimately means that Real will have to sell their highly-rated centre-back this summer transfer market.

According to Marca, Real Madrid have proposed a renewal offer to Varane but are yet to receive a response from the centre-back. The Frenchman currently has offers on the table from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, per El Chiringuito’s Josep Pedrerol, which has stalled renewal negotiations with Madrid.

At Chelsea, the Blues are looking for a world-class centre-back to partner Antonio Rudiger. Thomas Tuchel has the services of Thiago Silva at his disposal, however, the Brazilian has struggled with muscular injuries and his availability is always doubtful. With that being said, the European Champions consider Varane to be an ideal candidate.

The same can be said about Manchester United, who are looking for a centre-back to partner Harry Maguire. Victor Lindelof has not been the ideal deputy for Maguire as the Swedish centre-back is poor in the air and lacks consistency with his performances.

While Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on securing Varane this summer, a transfer looks quite unlikely. The former have diverted their attention towards signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, meanwhile, the latter have already agreed personal terms with Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.  If both the clubs pull off their respective transfer operations, it’s highly unlikely that they would have the financial resources left to sign Varane.

Thus, that leaves with Paris Saint-Germain, who seem like the ideal candidates to be Raphael Varane’s new club.

Why would a deal with PSG benefit Real Madrid and Raphael Varane?

The only possible two reasons why Raphael Varane probably wants to leave the Spanish capital is for a new challenge or for a better contract, maybe even both. At Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman would take on a new challenge in his career while also receiving higher wages than what he currently earns at Madrid. A win-win situation for Varane.

But how does a move to PSG benefit Real Madrid? Well, it’s no secret that Los Blancos are doing all they can to land Kylian Mbappe.

Varane’s potential move to the Parc des Princes could open up an avenue towards signing the 22-year-old. The club is looking to offload the player for 60 million euros which will come in handy to sign Mbappe or Madrid can even offer Varane in a player plus cash swap deal.

If a player plus cash swap deal works out, it’s a win-win for everyone. Real Madrid get their preferred signing, Varane gets a new challenge, Mbappe signs for his dream club and PSG sign one of the world’s best centre-backs while also cashing on Mbappe whose contract runs out next year.
